FAQ - Frequently Asked Questions and their answers:
Japan has very strict privacy laws. They do not allow published vital records online, microfilmed or published in indexes. The vital records are found on the Household Register koseki and can only be obtained by contacting the city hall honseki from which your ancestor last lived. The city hall will only allow you to obtain this record after a very through process of documenting that you are in fact a descendant of the person you are requesting a koseki for. This can be a lengthy and difficult process. Advantage Genealogy has obtained hundreds of these records and can assist you in your search for your heritage and ancestors.
That is a very good question. Do you know that professional genealogist often hire other genealogist to help them with their own family research? Why - because no genealogist can know everything about every geographic region, ethnic and nationality factors, as well as all records, resources and archives that are available. They know it is money well spent to hire someone who specializes in the particular area they need. Genealogy is a science and requires a high degree of knowledge, analysis, methodology and insight. Hiring a professional will end up saving you time (possibly years of researching on your own) and expense. Professional genealogist document everything - every source, every conclusion. Hiring a professional genealogist will be worth every penny if they can connect you to your history, your heritage and your lineage. "I cannot express in words what Valerie has done for me and my family this past year. She has assisted me in being able to [find] my ancestors. I had just sent the last of my researched names to my niece and I was wondering how I would be able to go on [further in my research] and then I spoke to Valerie today... it is an answer to a prayer. Thank you, Valerie." ~ Aiko J.
